Stop
Also called interior stop, inside stop
The strip on the room side of the frame that keeps the lower sash in its track.
The stop is a thin strip fixed to the jamb and head on the interior side of the lower sash. It holds the sash in place while leaving it free to slide.
Because it is fixed with nails or screws, the stop can be removed to take out the lower sash for repair or painting.
