Parting stop
Also called parting bead
The thin strip between the two sashes that keeps them in separate tracks.
The parting stop sits in a groove in the jamb and head, between the upper and lower sashes. It separates the two tracks so the sashes slide past each other without rubbing.
It is usually only lightly held, so it can be pried out to free the upper sash once the lower sash has been removed.
