Hinge
The pivot on one side of a casement sash that lets it swing open like a door.
A casement sash is hung on hinges along one vertical edge, so it swings out from the frame like a door. An awning sash is hinged along its top edge instead. The hinges are usually concealed when the window is closed, at the top and bottom of the hinge stile.
Because the sash swings outward, a casement can be opened wide to catch a breeze, and it seals tightly when shut.
