Lock rail

Also called middle rail

The middle rail of a panel door, at the height of the lockset.

The lock rail is the horizontal member at about waist height, where the knob and lock are fitted. Because the latch has to be housed in the door, this rail is made wide and solid enough to take the lockset without weakening the joints.
