Threshold

Also called sill, saddle

The strip across the floor at the bottom of the doorway.

The threshold covers the joint between the floor surfaces on either side of the door, and on an exterior door it also seals the bottom against draughts and rain. It is where the door closes down on its bottom edge.

On an exterior door it is often sloped and made of metal or hardwood, and is called the sill.
