Rail

The horizontal members of a sash.

Rails are the horizontal pieces of a sash. Each sash has a top rail and a bottom rail, joined into the stiles at either end.

On a double-hung window the top rail of the upper sash and the bottom rail of the lower sash are ordinary rails. The two in the middle are meeting rails.
