Drip cap

Also called head flashing

The sloped cap over the top of the window casing that sheds water away from the wall.

A drip cap is a small projecting piece, often metal or a shaped board, fixed above the head casing on the outside. Water running down the wall drips off its edge instead of running behind the casing and into the joint at the top of the window.

It is tucked under the wall’s weather barrier at the back and slopes slightly outward.
