Sill

The bottom member of the window frame, sloped outward to shed water.

The sill is the bottom piece of the window frame. It slopes toward the outside so that rain runs off instead of pooling against the sash.

The flat interior ledge that most people call the windowsill is, strictly, the stool. The sill proper is mostly seen from outside.
