Jack stud
Also called trimmer, trimmer stud
The short stud under each end of a header that carries its weight down.
A jack stud is nailed to the inside of a king stud. It runs from the bottom plate up to the underside of the header and carries the header’s load down to the floor.
Its inner face is the edge of the rough opening.
