Hinge

The pivot that lets the door swing from the jamb.

A door hangs from hinges, normally two or three, fixed to the hinge stile and to the jamb. The barrel of each hinge, called the knuckle, is what shows when the door is shut.

Three hinges keep a tall or heavy door from sagging out of square.
